Tasmania

A world of its own, separated from the Australian mainland, Tasmania boasts a unique and diverse natural environment. I fell in love with Tasmanian landscape photography in 2016 when I joined an Overland Track Photography Tour run by Tasmanian landscape and wilderness photographer, Cam Blake. That week was truly life-changing. I had been a passionate photographer for as long as I could remember, but experiencing the island’s stunning variety — from rugged coastlines to lush rainforests and alpine peaks — instantly captured my imagination.

A Rich Photographic Heritage

Tasmania has a celebrated history of landscape photography. Cam introduced me to the famed Peter Dombrovskis, who created iconic images such as Morning Mist, Rock Island Bend, which became symbols of the island’s beauty and played a role in conservation campaigns like the protest against the Gordon Below Franklin Dam project. Contemporary photographers such as Cam Blake and Luke O’Brien continue this tradition. I’ve assisted Cam on a few of his tours and joined him on several other trips, while I had the chance to shoot with Luke on an adventurous trip with both of them to Tasmania’s wild South West, including the Mt Anne region. Their work remains a significant source of inspiration for me.

Caring for Your Prints

Maintaining your framed or unframed prints is straightforward:

• Lightly dust frames and UV acrylic with a dry microfiber cloth or feather duster.

• For minor spills, a slightly damp microfiber cloth or an acrylic-safe cleaning product is acceptable.

•Avoid using glass cleaners, which can damage UV acrylic.

These steps help preserve the subtle tonal richness, detail, and archival quality of each print for generations.

Personal Reflection

Photography has been a lifelong passion, and Tasmania remains a place I return to regularly. I also enjoy capturing my home city of Melbourne, with its geometry, light, people and urban energy, as well as the broader Victorian landscape. Occasionally, I venture further afield, offering prints from other parts of Australia and beyond. Seeing my work displayed in someone else’s environment brings me immense satisfaction — it’s about more than a pretty picture; it’s about sharing a connection to place and the natural world.
